This rib recipe will impress your guests and it takes almost no effort at all. Just let the meat cook in a low temp oven, then indulge in a delicious rib dinner a few hours later. There are two simple tricks to make these easy oven baked fall off the bone ribs.... And I will walk you through it step by step. Now set your oven to 275°F and let's get started.

The Key Ingredients for Easy Oven Baked Fall Off the Bone Ribs

  • Pork ribs: Baby back ribs are best, but you can use spareribs, country-style, or St. Louis style. The cook time should be similar, but larger ribs styles may require a longer bake time.

  • Seasoning: A generous amount of salt and pepper is all you need, but feel free to use your favorite spice rub.

  • BBQ sauce: Pull out a bottle of your favourite sauce (see I told you these were easy) or make your own. Try my Aunt Gail's Finger Lickin' BBQ Sauce. It's so good.

How to Cook Ribs in the Oven

I told you there were two secrets to making a great rack of ribs. Well, here they are. All you need is time and a sharp knife to remove the membrane covering the back side of the meat.

Yes. I know. Gross, but trust me, REMOVE THE MEMBRANE or have tough, instead of tender, ribs. I'll help you do it.

Prepping the Ribs

Turn your ribs so the meaty side is down. Slice into the membrane on the back. I cut into the meat slightly to ensure I'm able to grab the membrane.

Use your fingers or a dry paper towel or paper napkin to peel the membrane away. I find the paper towel gives good grip. Sometimes this takes a bit of work, sometimes it easily pulls away. Keep at it.

Once the membrane is removed, put the ribs on a prepared cookie sheet, generously season both sides of the ribs with salt and pepper. With the meaty side up cover the cookie sheet tightly with aluminum foil. Bake the ribs low and slow at 275°F for 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours or until tender.

Out of the Oven

Be careful removing your cookie sheet from the oven, as the grease may tip out. Remove the rib racks carefully onto another prepared tray. Slather the ribs in BBQ sauce and return to the oven. On a middle oven rack broil the uncovered ribs on low for about 5 minutes. Just so the BBQ sauce caramelizes. Serve warm.

These ribs are best with mashed potatoes, or potato salad, Caesar salad and a cold beer.
